History of Cricket Bangladesh

The cricket team of Bangladesh was the 10th team that received the status of a Test-playing nation and also, it was considered to be the first one to get it, especially in the 21st century.

It was on 10th November 2000, Bangladesh played its first Test match against India scheduled at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka. The match ended in only 4 days and unfortunately, the Bangladesh team lost the match by 9 wickets.

The team had to wait for about 4 years for recording its first-ever test cricket victory. They achieved victory against Zimbabwe at Chittagong on the 10th of January, 2005. This Bangladesh match was a part of a two-match series that was played against Zimbabwe. Not only that, but this was considered to be the first one that the Tiger cricket team won.

It was the year 1986 when Bangladesh started their One Day International cricket matches. At that time, they played the 1985-86 Asia Cup.

The first Bangladesh cricket match in the One Day International format was played against Pakistan at Moratuwa on 31st of March, 1986. Pakistan won that match by a 7-wicket margin.

Bangladesh had to wait for almost 12 years for recording their first-ever victory in limited-overs cricket.

The Coca-Cola Triangular Series was held at Hyderabad on 17th May 1998, which included Bangladesh, Kenya, and India. In that particular series, Bangladesh won their first One Day International match by a 6-wicket margin against Kenya.

The cricket team of Bangladesh played their first-ever T20I match on the 28th of November, 2006 against Zimbabwe Team.

Held at Khulna, they won the match by a 43 run margin against Zimbabwe. So, Bangladesh is among the few countries that have won their first T20I match.

Bangladesh Cricket Board

The Bangladesh cricket board is the apex body that is involved in governing almost all the cricket-related activities in Bangladesh. It was in the year 1972 that BCB was first established, and, in 1977 it was recognized as a regional member by the ICC.

They received the status of full membership on the 26th of June, 2000. Also, the cricket board of Bangladesh received affiliation from the ACC or Asian Cricket Council in the year 1983.

Nazmul Hasan Papon is the Board President whereas the Vice President is Abu Jahed Mohammad Nasir Uddin. Nizamuddin Chowdhury is the CEO of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The headquarters of the cricket board is at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium located in Mirpur, Dhaka.

Some of the popular tournaments organized by the cricket board of Bangladesh are Dhaka Premier Division T20 Cricket League, Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, Bangladesh Premier League, National Cricket League, and the Bangladesh Cricket League.

Bangladesh National Cricket Team Roster/ Bangladesh Cricket Schedule

Due to COVID-19, currently, there are no matches scheduled for Bangladesh. The IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders wanted to take Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for the 2020 edition, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board denied the NOC.
