In 2008, Delhi Capitals squad played and won its first match against the Rajasthan Royals. The team started with a great note under the leadership of Virendra Sehwag. However, eventually, the Delhi Capitals players crumbled, losing consecutively four matches. Their fans saw a light of hope when they entered the semi-finale. The team couldn’t win and lost against the winning team of 2008’s IPL, the Rajasthan Royals.

Such depressing performances forced the Delhi Capitals authority to be more vigilant while choosing players. During the 2016 IPL, they released Yuvraj Singh and Angelo Mathews. They started to board expensive players like Pawan Negi (all-rounder), Sanju Samson (Batsman), Karun Nair (Batsman), Sam Belling (Wicketkeeper), Rishabh Pant (Wicket-keeper).

After such an extensive change, the team performance improved and was praised by their fans. Even though they couldn’t win, the critics and audience always supported Delhi Capitals matches till the end.

Again, the Delhi Capitals squad’s performance dropped in 2017 and 2018. The owners did try to revive the DC through trading players, but nothing seems to work for this team. In 2019, The Delhi Capitals squad included excellent players like Jason Roy, Rohit Sharma, Chris Woakes, Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer, and Alex Cary.

In 2019, the squad was under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, who made them qualify for the playoff after a long wait of 7 years. DC also won its first playoff against Chennai Super Kings by a whopping six wickets. They couldn’t win but were the second runner-up of 2019, IPL.

The Delhi Capitals IPL 2020 matches started strong and won their first seven games out of 9. After consecutively losing four games, the Delhi Capitals squad 2020 bounced back. Their win against Sunrisers Hyderabad made them reach the finale. Even though Mumbai Indians defeated them, DC fans started to gain hope.
