Shimron Hetmyeris a Guyanese cricketer who plays for the West Indies cricket team and was also a part of the West Indies squad for the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He is a left-handed, aggressive, and hard-hitting batsman who also bowls right-arm leg-break. Hetmyer’sEarly Life

Shimron Odilon Hetmyer also referred to as Shimron Hetmyer was born in Cumberland, East Berbice- Corentyne, Guyana. His father Gladstone Hetmyer was a worker in sugar estates before he retired. He has four siblings and one of his elder brothers, Seon Hetmyer, is a former senior inter-county cricket player who later followed in his father's footsteps. When he was six years old, he started playing cricket matches with his brother at the “Young Warriors Club'' ground every weekend. Hetmyer was a crowd-pleaser and his batting skills were evident right from the beginning. He got enrolled at “Rose Hall Estate Primary School'' Rose Hall, Guyana. When he was nine years old, he started playing cricket at the school level. Later, his father transferred him to “Berbice High School'' in New Amsterdam, where his cricket coach made him the captain of the school cricket team in the 9th standard.

Hetmyer’s IPLcareer started in the year 2019 when the left-handed batsmen played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).Hebecame the first big-ticket purchase at the 2019 IPL auctions, fetching a winning bid of Rs. 4.20 Crores from RCB.Shimron Hetmyer’s score was 90 runs in 5 matches in 2019. In the 2020 IPL, he made his way to Delhi Capitals after being bought for Rs. 7.7 Crores.

Shimron Hetmyer’s Domestic Career

Shimron Hetmyer made his debut in the Twenty20 (T20) 2016 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for the Guyana Amazon Warriors and was retained for the 2017 edition. He became the youngest batsman to secure a century in the CPL in August 2018, when he scored 100 runs for Guyana Amazon Warriors against the Jamaica Tallawahs. Cricket West Indies (CWI) awarded Shimron a red-ball contract for the 2018–2019 season in October 2018. Later in December 2018, Shimron was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB) in the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League. And in March 2019, he was named as one of the 8 players to watch by the International Cricket Council (ICC) ahead of the 2019 Indian Premier League tournament. He was then released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the 2020 IPL auction and was bought by the Delhi Capitals. After that, he was named in the Guyana Amazon Warriors squad for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League in July 2020.

Also on 20 December 2017, Shimron made his very first ODI debut against the New Zealand cricket team atWhangarei. He scored 29 runs off 42 balls in the match, but the Black Caps emerged triumphant in the end. Shimron went on to be a consistent scorer for West Indies and became the 4th fastest WestIndiesplayer to reach 1000 ODI runs in 29 innings. He has scored five centuries and four half-centuries in 40 innings so far.

Shimron Hetmyer’s International Career

Shimron Hetmyer represented the West Indies at U/19 level, leading the team to win in the 2016 U/19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh over India in the finals. He scored two half-centuries in the competition. He was then selected for the West Indies Test team for the series against Pakistan in April 2017. On 21 April 2017, he made his Test debut against Pakistan. He was then added to West Indies' One Day International (ODI) team ahead of their series against New Zealand in December 2017. He made his ODI debut against New Zealand on 20 December 2017. Later, he joined the West Indies' Twenty20 International (T20I) team for their series against New Zealand. He then made his T20I debut on 1st January 2018 against New Zealand.

He scored his first ODI century against the United Arab Emirates(UAE) at the Old Hararians ground in Harare in the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier on 6th March 2018. West Indies won the game by 60 runs, and Hetmyer was named as the man of the match.

Shimron scored the fastest century for the West Indies against England in an ODI match in Feb 2019, doing so in 82 balls.

He was then named in the West Indies team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup in April 2019. The International Cricket Council (ICC) named him as one of the five exciting talents making their Cricket World Cup debut. Shimron scored his 1,000th run in ODIs on 17 June 2019 in the match against Bangladesh.
