Rishabh Pant Profile

A native of Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant had to change bases many times at a young age to play cricket at the highest level. It was the U-19 World Cup in 2016 that made him a popular name across the country. He broke a record 50 against Nepal while soon setting the tone against Namibia, scoring a hundred. Unlike most southpaws, Pant's strength mainly lies in the arc between the mid-on and square, as his massive punch with the bat strikes fear in the minds of the opponents. He also uses offside, but not as a regular left-handed hitter. Pant was selected by the Delhi franchise in the T20 Indian Premier league in 2016 and has already demonstrated his skills with quite an explosive performance repertoire.

Although he appeared on stage as a batsman for the limited-format ODIs, Pant also reached the next level for Delhi in terms of the four-day test format. He broke the historic record of scoring a century in just 48 balls in the 2016/17 season and went on to become one of the youngest batsmen to set a three-century record. Pant ended up in the top 5 top-scorers that season, and what stands out is his staggering hit rate of 107 - unimaginable in this format, especially considering his amazing consistency.

On 22nd October, 2015 at the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy, Rishabh Pant made his first-class debut. Pant made his List A debut on 23rd December, 2015 at the 2015-16 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

In the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy, Pant scored 308 runs in an innings during a match against Maharashtra, making him the third-youngest Indian to reach a triple century in top-class cricket.

Indian T20 Premier League

Rishabh Pant would check off most aspects if the definition of the ideal T20 batsman was ever written. He is a fierce cricketer with a wide range of strokes and can cross boundaries with ease. Strokes, ambition, fearless, you name it, and this guy has all the weapons in his arsenal.

Rishabh Pant Indian T20 Premier League Team

Rishabh Pant’s career so far embodies the chronology of the Indian T20 Premier League, "where talent meets opportunity." Delhi Daredevils picked up Rishabh at an auction in 2016 for 1.9 crores. His first season didn't go the way he anticipated, but Rishabh justified the owner's confidence in 2017. It was a breakthrough season, and Rishabh's performance came out well and right. By the time he entered the second season of the Indian T20 Premier League, his confidence was overwhelming, and there was talk of India's imminent participation in the 2017 Champions Trophy. However, life took an unexpected turn for the young batsman. A few days before his team's first game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, his father passed away leaving a void that was difficult to fill. Returning to cricket after the tragedy, he almost got his team a victory with an effort all by himself and then scored a stunning 97 against the Gujarat Lions to finish the tournament with 366 runs.

Rishabh was reserved for the third season and turned out to be the only bright spot for Delhi in a rather dark campaign. Throughout the season, Pant is responsible for destroying opponents’ player morale. His score of 125 against SRH was one that reached for the stars.

Rishabh Pant was appointed captain of the Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2021 Indian T20 Premier League after Shreyas Iyer was left out of the tournament with a shoulder injury. On 10th April,2021, Pant played his first game as Delhi Capitals captain against Chennai Super Kings; he then became the fifth-youngest captain of the Indian Premier League. Pant won his first game as Indian T20 Premier League captain after Delhi Capitals beat Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets. Pant led the Delhi Capitals to four wins from their first six Indian T20 Premier League matches in 2021.

Pant is the second-youngest player to score a ton in the Indian T20 Premier League after Manish Pandey during his play. This was Pant's first Indian T20 Premier League ton and the 50th century scored in the tournament history.

After the World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named Rishabh Pant as the team's new star.

In the second innings of the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy First Test, India was bowled out for 36 runs and lost the Test by 8 wickets, despite having a healthy lead in the first innings. Virat Kohli's unavailability for the remainder of the series caused India to change their line-up and add more batsmen. Rishabh Pant was selected ahead of Wriddhiman Saha for the second test in Melbourne.

While Pant scored a valuable 29 in the first round of the Melbourne Test, he made a career-changing knock in Sydney.

Rishabh Pant also suffered a minor injury during the match. However, he was promoted and came out batting at 5. He hit 12 fours and 3 sixes in his counter-attack of 97 runs in just 118 balls.
