Marnus Labuschagne’s Personal Life

Marnus Labuschagne is a professional South-African born Australian cricketer who is a batting all-rounder. He was born on 22nd June 1994 in Klerksdorp in South Africa's North West Province. His family emigrated to Australia when he was 10, and Labuschagne attended Brisbane State High School from where his cricketing career started.  Rebekah is Marnus Labuschagne’s wife, whom he married in 2017 after dating each other for a long time.

Domestic and County Cricket Career

Labuschagne played under-12, under-15, under-17 and under-19 level cricket for Queensland. He was the captain of Queensland in the 2012-13 National Championships. Marnus Labuschagne plays for Easts-Redlands District Cricket Club in the Brisbane Grade Cricket. In 2013, he played for Plymouth Cricket Club in the Devon Premier League whereas in the Kent Premier League 2014 he played for Sandwich Town Cricket Club.

Labuschagne made his first-class cricket debut in the 2014-15 season of Sheffield Shield where he scored 83 runs against South Australia. Then in 2014-15, he was used as a substitute fielder for the Australia National Side where he took a low catch at short leg against India. M Labuschagne made his List A debut in the 2015 One-Day Cup for Queensland, where he scored his maiden first-class century in the eighth match of Sheffield Shield. He was awarded the player of the tournament in the 2016 One-Day Cup for scoring 273 runs at an average of 45. He was the leading run-scorer for Queensland in 2017-2018, which is why Cricket Australia included his name in the Sheffield Shield team of the season.

In 2019, Labuschagne signed for Glamorgan County Cricket Club in the English Cricket Season where he scored 1,114 runs throughout the season. He scored three consecutive centuries in the first four matches of first-class cricket and became the second-highest run-scorer in the County Championship. Labuschagne’s cricket career blossomed after the 2019 Ashes when Glamorgan Cricket Club re-signed him for the next two seasons.

International Career

In October 2018, Labuschagne made his Test debut for Australia against Pakistan, where he scored a duck and 13 runs in the first, also taking two wickets along with it. In the second Test, Labuschagne scored in 25 and 43 runs in both innings and took five wickets for his team.

Marnus Labuschagne was named in the 2019 Australian squad for the Ashes series in England. He replaced Steve Smith on the fifth day of the second Test, and became the first player to be a concussion substitute in a Test match, following ICC’s changes in the rule-book. Labuschagne scored 59 runs and got in the playing XI for the third Test in Smith’s absence. He was the top run-scorer for the Australian side in both the innings of the 3rd Test and was praised for his brave and intelligent batting.

Labuschagne retained his place for the Pakistan series where he scored his maiden Test century and made 185 runs. In the second Test, he scored another century in the same series and followed it up with another century in the New Zealand series. He made two half-centuries in the New Zealand series and then hit his first double century at SCG. Marnus Labuschagne was the highest Test match run-scorer in 2019, making 975 runs and becoming the fourth-ranked batsmen in the ICC rankings.

He made his ODI debut in January 2020 against India, where he did not get a chance to bat as well as bowl, but Australia won the match.  He scored his maiden ODI half-century in the third match of the series.

Labuschagne was retained in the Australian squad for the South African tour, where he scored his maiden ODI century at Potchefstroom by making 103 runs. Cricket Australia awarded him the central contract for the 2020-2021 season. He was included in the 26 player squad for training ahead of the England tour.
