Kapil Dev was born on 6th January 1959 in Chandigarh, India. He is a former Indian cricketer who is an excellent hard-hitting middle-order batsman and a fantastic fast bowler. Kapil Dev is regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders to play the game, and with that, he is also regarded as one of the greatest captains in the history of cricket. Kapil Dev’s family background was very far away from cricket. His father Ram Lal Nikhanj was a prominent timber merchant, and his mother Raj Kumari Lajwanti was a housewife. Besides this, he has six siblings. Kapil Dev started his study at DAV School and joined Desh Prem Azad in 1971. Currently, Kapil Dev’s age is 61 years. Kapil Dev’s wife’s name is Romi Bhatia, who he first met at a friend’s party in 1979. He proposed Romi Bhatia in a local train, and she agreed. They both got married in 1980 at a very young age. The couple was blessed with a beautiful girl, Amiya Dev after 14 years of marriage.

1979–80 – Kapil dev was awarded Arjuna Award.

Kapil Dev Domestic Career
Cricketer Kapil Dev made his debut in first-class cricket, playing for his state, Haryana, India. Then he joined the Indian national team for a 1978–1979 Test series against Pakistan Team . Even though his score of 7 wickets over three matches was not the most striking of his debuts, Dev played with enthusiastic energy, possessing an impressive out-swinger delivery style and aggressiveness that Indian cricket had not seen since a long while. Regarded as India's first authentic fast-paced, Kapil Dev’s bowling made him escort the country's bowling attack for the next two decades. Kapil Dev ended his Test career with a record of 434 wickets in 131 matches (which was broken in 2000 by Jamaica's Courtney Walsh), including 23 five-wicket-haul matches. In one-day internationals, he took 253 wickets over 225 games. Kapil even made a mark as a hard-hitting middle-order batsman. In a 1978–1979 Test match series against West Indies, Kapil not only secured seven wickets in the 4th Test match but also scored 126 runs in the fifth Test to help India win the series.
Kapil was appointed as the captain of the Indian Cricket Team in 1983. As a leader of India's group, Kapil downplayed strategy and led by example. This was the best scene of Prudential Cup in 1983 when he helped India beat Zimbabwe with a 175 not out (his 175 runs were a career-high). Nonetheless, Kapil Dev’s 175 runs led to him being relieved of the captaincy soon after the victory.
International Career
Kapil Dev made his first Test cricket debut in Faisalabad, Pakistan on 16 October 1978. Kapil frightened the Pakistani batsmen with his pace and bouncers that struck their helmets on more than one occasion. Kapil established himself as India's foremost fast bowler when he took two 5-wicket hauls and ended the home match against Australia with 28 wickets. He also scored 212 runs that included a half-century.
Kapil debuted as India's captain in the season against Sri Lankan team (before the Pakistan tour) when Gavaskar was rested. He had a good series in West Indies as he scored a century to secure the second test match. He took 17 wickets in the series (average 24.94). Kapil Dev set foot in the World Cup with an ordinary individual record – 32 Matches, 608 Runs (Average: 21), 34 wickets. Kapil Dev in World Cup semi-finals helped curtail the lower order after England lost constant wickets to Binny and Amarnath. It was India's maiden World Cup win, and Kapil led with 303 runs (Average: 60.6), 12 wickets (20.41) and seven catches in 8 matches. Later, India hosted the West Indies cricket team and lost the Test series by 3–0 and the ODI Series by 5–0. Kapil achieved his best test bowling performance in a loss at Motera Stadium, Ahmedabad with a return of 9/83.
