Ishan Kishan: Cricket’s Poster Boy
Ishan Kishan is a young Indian cricketer who plays for Jharkhand State. He was born in Patna, Bihar. His father, Pranav Kumar Pandey, is a builder by profession, and his mother, Suchitra Singh is a housewife. His brother Raj Kishan was also a former state-level cricketer and he always supported Ishan in pursuing cricket as a career. Both of them used to play cricket for the same local team. Due to the Bihar Cricket Association registration issue, he started playing for neighbouring state Jharkhand on the advice of some senior players and friends. According to Ishan’s coach, his idols growing up were former Indian team captain M.S. Dhoni and former wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist. In 2015, because of outstanding performance and hard work, he was named as the captain of India’s squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Ishan Kishan’s IPL Career
Ishan Kishan entered the Indian Premier League in 2017. He was picked up by the brand new franchise Gujarat Lions. He had an excellent tournament in which he scored 277 runs in his 11 innings, which included 29 fours and 11 sixes. His strike rate in 2017 was 134.46. In one of the matches against RCB at Rajkot, Ishan Kishan played a magnificent innings of 39 runs in just 16 balls and almost won the game for Gujarat Lions. However, in the end, RCB won the match by 21 runs, but his hard-work grabbed eyeballs. After his fantastic performance in the 2017 IPL, the competition to buy him increased. Hence, Mumbai Indians bought him at a massive price of Rs. 6.2 Crores. He was the most expensive uncapped wicket-keeper bought by any team in IPL 2018 auctions. Although he performed inconsistently, he still managed to score 275 runs in 14 innings at an explosive strike rate of 149.45. Ishan Kishan’s Domestic Career
Ishan Kishan has played an essential role in Jharkhand team’s rise in the past 4 to 5 years. He scored 273 against a good Delhi bowling attack in the 2016-2017 Ranji Trophy match. He also scored 14 sixes in this innings, which is the highest number of sixes scored by any batsman in a Ranji Trophy innings. This was also the highest score by any batsman who has represented Jharkhand. Ishan was the highest run-scorer for Jharkhand with 484 runs in six matches in the 2017-2018 season. He was also Jharkhand’s highest run-scorer in the 2018-2019 Vijay Hazare Trophy with 405 runs in nine games. Ishan Kishan was named in the India C team for the 2018-2019 Deodhar Trophy after his splendid run in the previous domestic seasons and ended up scoring a critical century in the finals which helped India C win their maiden title. Ishan Kishan’s innings against Saurashtra earned him a place in the Under-19 World Cup 2016, which increased his chances of an India call-up. He was made the captain of a side that included extremely talented players like Rishabh Pant, Sarfaraz Khan and Khaleel Ahmed. Ishan Kishan didn’t have a great outing with the bat as he scored only 73 runs in 6 innings. He seemed to be in trouble whenever the conditions weren’t friendly. Although, Kishan’s captaincy skills were lauded because his team managed to win all five matches and reached the finals undefeated. The famed Indian batting line-up got exposed in the face of a brilliant bowling performance by the West Indies(WI) and settled for a total of 145 runs in the final match. Kishan could manage only four runs in the match. The Indians fought well in the 2nd innings and even after having to defend a low total, managed to stretch the match till the very last over.
