Chris Woakes

Chris Woakes is a 31-year-old English cricketer who played domestically for the Warwickshire County Cricket Club and internationally for the England cricket team in all formats of the game. This handsome player is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium pace bowler. Woakes was a part of the 2019 Cricket World Cup squad, which England won.

Chris Woakes Cricket Career

He started playing cricket from the age of 7 with the Aston Manor Cricket Club. Woakes also played three matches in Minor Counties Trophy for Hertfordshire County Cricket Club in 2006 and also played for Warwickshire's Under -15 -17, Academy and Second XI teams between 2004 and 2007. He also trained as a footballer with Walsall F.C. in his younger days.

Chris Woakes played for Warwickshire and was in the team and played many matches representing the Second XI Championship. In 2006, he got three wickets in a game played on England’s tour of West Indies.

  Chris Woakes became a regular in the Warwickshire XI in 2008 and picked 42 wickets at an average of 20.57 runs per wicket in the County Championship.
This all-rounder was then added to England’s World Cup 2020 squad in June and was hailed by the great Allan Donald as the future of England Cricket. Chris Woakes was also chosen to play for the England Lions against West Indies in a warm-up match where he took six wickets for 43 runs and snared all top-order batsmen to wrap up their innings for 203 runs.

C. Woakes showcased his batting skills against Hampshire in 2009, when he scored 131 not out, which was his maiden first-class century. He also shared an incredible partnership of 222 runs for the ninth wicket with Jonathan Trott. Chris's medium-pace helped him claim his 200th first-class victim in July 2011 against Sussex in the County Championship.

Test Career

Chris Woakes made his test debut in 2013 against Australia in the Ashes series and played the first match at The Oval grounds. He has played 38 tests in which Woakes made both his bowling and batting count for his team. Woakes has made 1321 runs with a strike rate of 51.34, 137 being his best. While bowling in 71 innings, Woakes claimed 112 wickets by giving away 3282 runs at an average of 29.30, a record-breaking 6/17 his best.

T20 Career

Chris Woakes’ debut in International Twenty20 matches happened on January 12, 2011, against the Kangaroos in Adelaide. He took one wicket for 34, taking the captain out and while batting, Woakes scored the winning run off the last ball. He picked one wicket for 29 runs with the ball and made 11 not out in the series’s 2nd match.

However, his impressive bowling and batting figures helped him get selected for more matches of T20. Chris Woakes has participated in 111 T20 games where he’s made 803 runs with a strike rate of 136.10, and his best has been 57 runs. He has always been impressive with his bowling. Woakes has grabbed 121 wickets, giving away 3040 runs at an economy of 8.38, his best bowling figures being 4-21.

ODI and World Cup Career

Chris Woakes’ ODI debut was on January 23, 2011, against Australian team in Sydney. His career-best bowling figure was recorded on January 30, 2011, against Australia in Brisbane, taking 6-45.

Woakes has also bowled a great spell against the Sri Lankan team in 2014, with figures of 6-47 in the series. It was one of the best bowling performances of that year. Woakes has always been great on domestic pitches but could not perform with that consistency on international pitches, which was further proved by his performance in the 2019 World Cup.

  Chris Woakes was part of the England team for both the 2015 and 2019 World Cup. The 2015 WC was not that great for him; he just took five wickets and was very expensive. The 2019 World Cup saw some impressive bowling performances from this all-rounder.

 In the semi-final match played against Australia, Chris Woakes took three wickets and was declared the Man of the Match. In the World Cup final match against New Zealand, Woakes took three wickets again, and England won their first World Cup after 1992.
Chris was given a place in the 15-man squad for training ahead of international fixtures starting in England on May 29, 2020, and for closed-door training for  the test series beginning on June 17, 2020.

Chris Woakes IPL Career

With his growing reputation and all-rounder capabilities, Woakes got his first contract of IPL in 2017, playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Then in 2019, he was part of the RCB team.

Chris Woakes has played in a total of 18 IPL matches and picked up 25 wickets at an average of 23.04. For IPL 2020, he was picked up by Delhi Capitals for an auction price of 1.5 crore, but Woakes pulled out due to personal reasons.
