ANIL KUMBLE: Cricket’s Jumbo
Anil Kumble was born on 7th October 1970 in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. He is a former Indian Cricketer Coach and Commentator, who played Tests and ODIs for 18 years. He was such a fantastic bowler that he became only the second person in the game’s history to take 10 wickets in an innings in a test match.
Anil Kumble’s Family - Chethana Kumble is Anil Kumble’s wife and they married in the year 2000. The couple has one boy named Mayas Kumble and two daughters Svasti Kumble and Aaruni Kumble.

- Anil Kumble became an Arjuna Awardee in 1995.
- In 1996, Anil Kumble was chosen as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year.

Anil Kumble IPL Career
When Anil Kumble took retirement, he participated in the Indian Premier League
and agreed to have a contract with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise. RCB gave him a 3-year contract worth US $500,00 per year in the first round of bidding in 2008. Anil Kumble’s wickets tally was excellent in the 2009 match against Rajasthan Royals. He helped RCB secure a 75-run victory in the second match of the 2009 edition, held in South Africa. Anil Kumble was named as the captain of the Royal Challengers after that comprehensive victory. On 23rd May, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the Chennai Super Kings by six wickets and booked a spot in the finals against the Deccan Chargers. He ended the tournament as the most successful spin bowler and the 2nd highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets to his name. In 2010, with his talent and hard work, he led the team to the semi-finals. But they lost their semi-final match to Mumbai Indians. He could manage just one wicket in this match but was named in the Cricinfo IPL XI for his overall performance in the tournament. He decided to end his IPL stint by the end of 2010 and took retirement from IPL on 4 January 2011. But his IPL journey didn’t end here. RCB decided to appoint him as the chief mentor for the team. He was there with RCB till 2013, but after that moved to a similar role with Mumbai Indians, which he quit in November 2015.
Anil Kumble Domestic Career
Anil Kumble made his debut for Karnataka against Hyderabad on 30 November 1989, taking four wickets and bagging a pair. He was selected for India Under-19 team later against Pakistan, scoring 113 in the first Test and 76 in the second. After this, he made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka at Sharjah in the Austral-Asia Cup on 25 April 1990. He played one more game in the series against Pakistan and landed up with two wickets. Kumble’s Test match debut happened in the same year when India toured England for a 3-test series. That match was the second Test of the series played at Manchester, and he secured three wickets for 105 runs in the first innings. But the second innings of the match led to a draw, with him not able to effect any dismissals. He did not play any Tests until 1992. Anil’s victory in Irani Trophy against Delhi helped him secure a place in the Indian side that toured South Africa and Zimbabwe. All in all, Anil took 18 wickets at an average of 25.94 with an economy rate of 1.84 in the 4-test series. When England toured India, Kumble took 21 wickets in 3 Tests at an average of 19.8. He secured seven wickets for 165 runs in the 3rd Test of the series played at Mumbai as India won the match by an innings and 15 runs and he was awarded the man of the match for his fantastic performance. In 1999, Anil Kumble’s 10 wickets in an innings against Pakistan helped India win that match easily. He became the second bowler after Jim Laker to pick 10 wickets in an innings in Test Cricket.
Anil Kumble’s ICC Stint
Anil joined the International Cricket Council's Cricket Committee in 2012 after retiring from international cricket. In 2016, Anil was made the Indian team’s coach, and within a few months of joining, the team jumped to the top slot in the ICC Test ranking. Later on, in Oct 2012, Anil Kumble was appointed as the chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee. In June 2016, as per BCCI's 3-member advisory committee’s recommendation, Anil was appointed as the Indian team’s head coach. Kumble held the post for a year with great success until the finals of the Champions Trophy of 2017, which India unfortunately lost. Anil had an alleged fallout with captain Virat Kohli and decided to resign from his position. He's still associated with ICC's technical committee and is an active member of the NCA, where he mentors young and budding cricketers.
