Career

Ajinkya Rahane’s IPL Career

Rahane’s IPL career has been quite fruitful and his performances have been consistent till now. In the initial years, he used to play for his home franchise, i.e., Mumbai Indians. He did not get many opportunities to play as he was an uncapped rookie player at the time.

The Mumbaikar started to show consistency in his IPL career after he shifted to Rajasthan Royals. To date, he has played for Rising Pune Supergiant, Rajasthan Royals, and Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

Due to a lack of playing opportunities in Mumbai Indians, he moved to the Rajasthan Royals in 2012. In the first match of that particular season, he scored a match-winning 98.

The 2012 IPL season was his breakthrough year in the tournament, as he gathered over 550 runs at a healthy strike rate to announce his arrival at the big stage.

This also includes his maiden IPL century. From the year 2012 to 16, Rahane has been one of the most consistent performers in the tournament’s history.

He struggled a bit with the Rising Pune Supergiants but managed to provide flying starts to the franchise quite often.

Captaincy

In 2015, he was appointed as the captain for T20s and ODIs for the Zimbabwe tour.

In March 2017, he was appointed as the captain of the test team in the 4th test against Australia due to Virat Kohli’s injury. India won that particular match by 8 wickets to regain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Rahane started playing cricket from the age of 7. Before he got selected to play for the Mohammad Nissar Trophy in Karachi, he played a U-19 match representing India against New Zealand.

Also, he made his 1st-class debut for Mumbai at the age of 19 years. He played his 1st international T20I match against England in the year 2011.

He scored his first test century against New Zealand at the Basin Reserve. Additionally, he was chosen as the captain of Team India for the 4th test against Australia in 2017.
